Together for Better Healthcare in Papua New Guinea
As a nonprofit association, we are proud to support MAMAmedevac – an organization in Papua New Guinea that provides life-saving medical evacuations by helicopter. In a country where 97% of the land is only accessible by bush paths, helicopters are often the only way for critically ill or injured patients to reach medical care in time.
Over the past five years, MAMAmedevac has carried out more than 500 emergency evacuations, most of them for women with life-threatening birth complications. Their work makes a vital contribution to reducing maternal and child mortality in one of the world’s most underserved regions.
Our partnership with MAMAmedevac is built on mutual support:
MAMAmedevac provides Katim Tasol e.V. with logistical support and local infrastructure, essential for the success of our projects.
Katim Tasol e.V. contributes medical expertise and training, strengthening healthcare provision in a sustainable way.
Together, we are committed to improving rural healthcare in Papua New Guinea – from emergency response to long-term capacity building.
Official Launch: Primary Health Care for Remote Communities in Papua New Guinea – February 2024
We are excited to announce the official launch of our new project.
Under the title “Primary Health Care for the Most Remote Regions of the World – A Lighthouse Project in Rural Papua New Guinea”, we are implementing a pioneering initiative with the generous support of the Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation as part of its humanitarian funding program.
Our mission is to significantly improve access to high-quality, sustainable health care in the most remote areas of Papua New Guinea. To achieve this, we are developing an innovative and replicable care model that works independently of location and infrastructure – and holds the potential to serve as a blueprint for other regions.

Surgical Support in Ghana
Surgical Support at St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Ghana
Our team is frequently on site to provide surgical support at the St. Martin de Porres Hospital in Eikwe, Ghana. This hospital plays a vital role far beyond the region, thanks to the outstanding and long-standing leadership of Dr. Cooper and his dedicated team. Patients even travel from neighboring countries to receive treatment here—at only a fraction of the usual costs.
We are especially grateful to our global surgeon Dr. Simon, who regularly supports the hospital with his expertise, ensuring continuity of care. His ongoing involvement helps strengthen the local medical team and provides patients with sustainable surgical care.
Our sincere thanks go to the entire local staff as well as to our transnational partners, whose support with organization and logistics makes this collaboration possible. Dr. Ulrich Unterreithmeier and Dr. Simon Ganal would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the warm cooperation and tireless commitment of everyone involved.
